FAQ

Frequently asked questions

The questions clients ask before they become clients — answered the way we'd answer on a call.

We just received an Oracle audit letter. What should we do first?
Don't panic, and don't sign anything yet. The first 30 days matter: acknowledge the letter, control the flow of data, and get an independent read of your real exposure before the first call with the auditors. A short licence risk assessment is usually the right first move — it tells you what the auditors are likely to find before they find it.
What does an Oracle licence assessment include?
Your entitlements (contracts, orders, support history), your deployments (what's installed and actually used — including the tricky parts like options and management packs), a gap analysis between the two, a risk evaluation, and a prioritised optimisation roadmap. The output is a defensible position, documented.
Are you an Oracle partner?
No. Akuiti is not an Oracle partner and does not resell Oracle products or services. Our advice carries no sales agenda — which is exactly what you want in licensing matters.
What is a ULA, and what happens at certification?
An Unlimited License Agreement lets you deploy certain products without counting licences. The trap is the exit: at certification, anything outside the agreed product list can need re-licensing. We negotiate ULAs and prepare certifications so that what you walk away with is what you actually use.
How is Java licensed today?
Java licensing has shifted repeatedly — subscription models, employee-based metrics, and rules that catch organisations simply running Java in production. A review maps your actual usage to the current models and produces a cost-reduction roadmap.
Do you work with cloud deployments (OCI, AWS, Azure)?
Yes. Licence rules differ across OCI, AWS and Azure — some deployment patterns are fine, others create real exposure. We assess cloud designs before you commit, and cloud migration is one of the most common triggers for a licensing review.
Can you help during a divestiture or carve-out?
Yes — transitional arrangements and carve-outs are specialised work. Licence entitlements don't always follow assets, and getting separation agreements right requires both licensing and technical fluency.
What do engagements look like — fees and duration?
Most engagements start with a free discovery call, then a fixed-scope assessment. Larger defence and negotiation mandates run on a defined retainer. You always know the fee and the deliverable before work begins.
Which languages do you deliver in?
Both. Consulting, deliverables and support in English or French — and bilingual documents when your teams are.
Do you cover vendors other than Oracle?
Yes, through partner experts in Microsoft, SAP and IBM licensing — one coordinated position across your whole estate.
